Autoimmunity & GI 3 Part Series

The gut is both a target and a potential driver of systemic autoimmune disease. For many patients, gastrointestinal involvement can have significant consequences for nutritional status and quality of life. This 3 part series explores the gut–immune-nutrition connection across systemic sclerosis/scleroderma, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjögren syndrome, autoimmune thyroid disease, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Beginning with the mechanisms that connect intestinal barrier integrity, the microbiome, immune signaling, and nutrition, the series then moves into the disease-specific GI manifestations and nutritional risks that dietitians encounter in practice.

The final session brings these concepts into clinical practice with a structured approach to nutrition assessment, micronutrient monitoring, drug–nutrient interactions, and medical nutrition therapy.

Participants will learn how to recognize nutrition risk, identify when objective assessment or multidisciplinary referral is warranted, and build practical MNT plans, from oral diet and symptom management through oral nutrition supplements, enteral nutrition, and parenteral nutrition when appropriate.

Throughout the series, emerging nutrition and microbiome research will be examined critically, with particular attention to the strength and limitations of the evidence so dietitians can translate evolving science into thoughtful, individualized care.

This series is led by Nancee Jaffe, MS, RDN, CSDH

Dates: November 4, 11, & 18 at 6-7:30 pm CST

Pending 4.5 CEUs from CDR

All sessions will be recorded for your convenience and will all be available after the live sessions are completed.
